Shagun, which is derived from the Sanskrit language, means ‘auspicious’. Offering shagun to the bride and groom is considered to be a way of blessing them and wishing harmony upon them as they enter into a new life together. Some also believe that it creates a stronger bond between the giver and the receiver by serving as a form of debt, a way to ensure that the givers and receivers will meet again. Across all of India, shagun is honored as a way of embracing prosperity, wisdom, and happiness, all through love. Many of our friends and family are making the long journey to India to celebrate our love, and that is shagun itself in our eyes. If you would like to offer additional shagun, you can Venmo us or send via Zelle to Sid’s Gmail address. Please note that, traditionally, monetary amounts end with a 1 (e.g. 21, 51, 101) because 0 is considered an inauspicious number and 1 is indivisible–it is a way to represent permanence between the giver and receiver
